SQUIRREL money box
Typical Maxim Velčovský. In 2005, he took traditional porcelain figures, purely decorative items, and cut them a "slot for coins". This is provocative DIY design. The result was money boxes, now the figurines had a function!
Here, too, Velčovský applied his favorite technique of redesign. He started from a kitschy "vintage" sculpture of a squirrel sitting on its hind legs, which he improved slightly by making an elongated slit in the figure's back, transforming it into a money box. The designer thus refers to the time when porcelain figurines were worth a fortune and were therefore only affordable for a limited class of people.
The figures were produced in very small quantities and there is no "opening" to remove what has been thrown in (without shards).
Porcelain white, with coin slot, Royal Dux Bohemia
Edition QUBUS Prague by 25 cm high, 23 cm wide, 9 cm deep
