Alessandro Mendini designed the vase (shape) back in 1992 for the "100% MAKE UP" project. He designed the Proust decor for the exhibition "Italy - Germany 4:3 / 50 Years of Italian and German Design" at the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn in June 2000. However, only 2 vases were produced for the exhibition. On the occasion of the 100th birthday of ALESSI (1921 - 2021), the vase is available in a limited edition of 999 pieces worldwide.

The lid and base are decorated with real gold, which is still done by hand today. The vase is then fired and the gold is cold-brushed again.
